Sometimes the best planning opportunities come from conversations. Whenever I hear someone say, “just invest in the lowest-cost ETF,” I’m always a little confused. That assumes that aside from the expense ratio, all investments are basically the same and we know that’s not true. Expenses matter. But so does performance, strategy, volatility, and how something fits with the rest of your portfolio. The expense ratio is one input but not the decision.
